- The Engineering Case Library
- This lists cases available from the ASEE Engineering Case Program. Held
at the Center for Case Studies in Engineering, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology,
IN, USA. The cases are accounts of real engineering work written for use in
engineering education. New cases will be listed and abstracted on change sheets
which will be mailed at irregular intervals and then added to each new edition
of the catalog. (Cases go back as far as 1960's. Not so many dated for the
1990's. Cases must be ordered as paper copies (eg $3.50 for 15 pages).

- The Lancaster University Engineering Design Centre is a UK national research
centre that specializes in software for Engineering Conceptual Design, particularly
for Mechatronics products. Schembuilder
enables an experienced designer to generate a large number of alternative
schemes in a short time, complete with rough costs, weights, overall dimensions,
etc. and has the capability of directing the less experienced designer to
produce schemes without the need to refer frequently to seniors, whilst learning
rapidly in the process.

- RACE
- "RACE does pioneering work in a young field that hopes to reverse the tragedy
of modern technology: the continuous subdivision and narrowing of science
and the consequent loss of balance of society and the environment. Its activities
were initiated in 1992 by Hiroyuki Yoshikawa, the President of the University
of Tokyo, who proposed novel directions for the study of engineering and technology
related to all aspects of man-made objects " artifacts ". We share our research
objectives with the Group for Research into Artifacts, supported by the Ministry
of Education, Science and Culture. We set to work simultaneously to harmonize
the subdivisions that exist in the academic world and which separate the different
sets of learning on artifacts, and to assess the problems and opportunities
--such as poverty, starvation, environmental disasters, energy shortages,
and health problems-- now facing modern society. Through the lens of the problems
themselves, a new way of doing engineering will emerge. The intellectual basis
of RACE is thus the removal the mismatch between academia and reality, we
are attacking this problem on seven fronts. "
